Bloomberg reported that the majority of her wealth — 81% — has been amassed through Rare Beauty, with her tours contributing to less than 5% of her money and her album and record sales providing less than 2%.

Prioritizing mental health and giving back to initiatives that have programming for increasing positivity is important to Gomez, who has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and has been open about her struggles with depression. To that end, the “Single Soon” singer contributes 1% of her cosmetics sales to Rare Beauty’s charity branch, Rare Impact Fund, which donates money to mental health foundations.

The inspiration for the cause came from Gomez’s own mental health struggles, she shared during her first annual Rare Impact Fund Benefit in October 2023.

“I struggled with the world inside my head for a long time and I felt lost and I felt hopeless at times. And in 2020, I received my diagnosis of bipolar disorder. And to be honest, everything quickly changed,” Gomez said. “I actually got the knowledge and the answers that I had been desperate for for so long. And understanding that obviously makes me become more aware of it and I’m less afraid than I used to be.”

“With that knowledge, I could seek out the support I needed to be myself, to find my joy again,” she continued. “And tonight I’m very proud to say that I have and I’ve been working really hard every day and I’m so happy just to be alive and to be here with you guys today.”

In May 2024, Gomez told TIME that she made sure to rely on her managers and lawyers when it came to understanding Rare Beauty’s finances and running the business so that she could focus on the impact fund and the product development.
