‘Reba’ Fans Are Begging for a Reboot After ‘Iconic’ Blooper With Reunited Cast on ‘Happy’s Place’
Though Reba has been off the air since 2007, several of the sitcom’s stars are still working together, prompting fans to ask for a return of the popular show to the small screen.
Reba McEntire and Melissa Peterman have joined forces again on the new show Happy’s Place, and a familiar face guest starred on the latest episode of the NBC series.
Steve Howey, who played McEntire’s son-in-law Van on her eponymous sitcom, appeared as a character named Danny on the Dec. 6 episode of Happy’s Place.
The show placed a tongue-in-cheek nod to the Reba setting in the episode, giving Howey a line about knowing a group of people in Houston, and the actors took it one step further for the studio audience while filming, resulting in a blooper that was shared on social media by the network.
In a video posted on Dec. 6, Howey walked into a backroom of the bar owned by McEntire’s character and delivered his scripted line. McEntire then responded, again with her scripted line, before Howey switched into his Reba character and exclaimed “Oh, I know who you are. Mrs. H?!”
McEntire tried to keep her composure, but as Howey played it up for the audience, who were now cheering enthusiastically, she couldn’t seem to hold back her laughter as Peterman ran onto the set, also as her Reba character.
“Van?!” she shrieked as Howey hugged her, proclaiming “Barbra Jean?!” before asking McEntire “you own a bar now?” At that point, Peterman improvised, saying that she’d “been in witness protection for like 20 years” before running off.
Howey then yelled out “Cheyenne’s drunk, she misses you,” referencing a plotline from Reba as McEntire laughed.
As production staff came onto the set to reset the props, Howey, now speaking as himself, apologized and said he “had to do it.”
Fans were delighted by the blooper, commenting that they “thought they rebooted Reba 😂🤣” and saying that “His voice and facial expressions became Van as soon as he said, ‘Mrs. H.’”
Others agreed, writing, “Ohhhh they need to bring reba back!!!!! With ALL the cast!!!” and stating that “Reba and Barbara Jean in witness protection would make sense 😭.”
“Reba breaking is the best. You could tell how happy she was that he did that 🥰,” said one fan, and another stated that “this is so iconic!!😅😂 the way he switched.”
“I love how they all went into character 😂,” said a fan, and others agreed, opining that “They should’ve just made this show Reb and Barbara Jean owning a bar.” A third fan asked “Why can’t we have a Reba reboot,” with more agreeing and writing, “At this point just start the Reba reboot ❤️.”
