Boxing Classic of England 2025: Anthony Joshua expresses his eagerness and determination to face Tyson Fury in what promises to be one of the most highly anticipated heavyweight clashe

The confrontation between two heavyweight boxing legends Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury, dubbed the “Battle of Britain”, is closer than ever. According to recent rumors, this anticipated match will take place on April 26, 2025 at Wembley Stadium, considered a symbol of British sport.

Joshua and the goal of 2025

Anthony Joshua, 35, recently confirmed his goal of fighting Tyson Fury in 2025. Speaking during a visit to Nigeria, Joshua said: “2025, I am aiming for Tyson Fury. I have to keep trying and not stop until I achieve my goal.”

Joshua also shared about his defeat to Daniel Dubois in September 2024, where he suffered the fourth defeat of his professional career. “The defeat makes me hungrier, makes me want to work harder,” Joshua admitted.

Joshua is expected to return to action in the summer of 2025, with the aim of rematching Daniel Dubois, or facing Tyson Fury.

Tyson Fury, once an undefeated champion, is also looking for a chance to restore his reputation after two consecutive losses to Oleksandr Usyk. Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s manager, said: “This is the perfect time for the two fighters to face each other. They are both at the end of their careers, both need a big win to re-establish their names.”

Significance of the anticipated fight

If the fight takes place, this will be one of the biggest boxing events in British history. Joshua and Fury are two of the greatest talents of the current boxing generation, having conquered the most prestigious titles in the world of boxing. A confrontation at Wembley will be the pinnacle of both their careers, with millions of fans around the world watching.

While rumours of a fight are circulating, there has been no official confirmation from either side. Eddie Hearn revealed that Joshua will fight twice in 2025, but whether Dubois or Fury will be his priority remains to be seen.

Fury drops in boxing rankings after defeat to Usyk

The former boxing champion, the ‘King of the Gangsters’, dropped two places in the WBO (World Boxing Organisation) heavyweight rankings after his second consecutive defeat to Oleksandr Usyk in December. In the rematch in Saudi Arabia before Christmas, Fury failed to reclaim his world titles from the Ukrainian, dropping him to third in the WBO heavyweight rankings.

Despite this, Fury still maintains his number one position in the WBC (World Boxing Council) heavyweight rankings. However, he is not ranked by the WBA (World Boxing Association).

Fury expressed his dissatisfaction with the referee’s decision in that fight: “I believe I won the fight. I was aggressive, I took the initiative and hit him in the head and body. But they gave Usyk a Christmas present.”
