Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury go head-to-head once again for heavyweight glory on December 21st in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
After Usyk’s stunning split-decision victory in their first encounter, making him the first undisputed heavyweight champion of the four-belt era, Fury is out for redemption. This clash is not just about the belts but about proving who truly reigns supreme in the heavyweight division.
In their last fight, round 9 was where Usyk really began to take control when he badly hurt ‘The Gypsy King’.
But, the Brit managed to take the fight the full 12 rounds before dropping a split-decision verdict to the Ukrainian.
Following the fight Fury’s corner came in for heavy criticism.
There were complaints about the number of voices in Fury’s corner, with his father John Fury, head trainer SugarHill Steward, and assistant trainer Andy Lee all providing input. This led to potentially conflicting advice, which might have confused Fury, especially in crucial moments something that the former WBC heavyweight champion has dismissed.
“No confusion at all,” he said. “You could have Angelo Dundee, Ray Arcel, Emmanual Steward, everyone in your corner, but when you’re on heat, it means s*** anyway.
“Whoever is in the corner that late on in the fight [means nothing]. I’m going to do what I’m going to do. At the end, it wasn’t like I didn’t feel like I wasn’t going to get the decision.
“It doesn’t mean anything, because it’s all someone’s opinion. Opinions mean s*** to me, because at the end of the day, he’s got his decision. That’s it, onto the next one.”
