Irish superstar Conor McGregor has announced his deal to fight an exhibition boxing match against YouTube star Logan Paul. The highly anticipated clash will be held in India, making it McGregor’s second appearance in a high-profile boxing event after his famous bout with Floyd Mayweather Jr.
McGregor, the former two-weight UFC champion, said on social media that rumors about his return to the mixed martial arts ring to face Spanish star Elia Topuria were untrue. Instead, he confirmed that he was in the process of reaching a preliminary agreement with India’s Ambani family to stage the match.
McGregor said in a post on the X platform:
“The rumors about me facing [Elijah] Topuria are not true. I am in the process of preliminary agreements with the Ambani family for an exhibition boxing match against Logan Paul in India. I have agreed. After that, I intend to return to the UFC ring.”
This fight comes after an eventful martial arts career for McGregor, but he has not fought since breaking his leg in a fight against Dustin Poirier in 2021. He was expected to face Michael Chandler at UFC 303, but pulled out due to a foot injury.
Logan Paul, who rose to fame as a YouTube star before turning to boxing, has fought in several exhibition fights, including a famous fight against Floyd Mayweather that ended in a draw. He also had a boxing victory over MMA fighter Dillon Danis.
McGregor indicated that the match will be held under the sponsorship of the Ambani family, led by billionaire Mukesh Ambani, who has a personal fortune estimated at US$ 120 billion, according to Forbes magazine.
The event is expected to attract massive global attention, bringing together two of the most prominent and controversial figures in sports and entertainment. With McGregor returning to boxing for the first time since his tenth-round loss to Mayweather, sports fans are eager to witness a once-in-a-lifetime showdown.
McGregor has confirmed that he will return to the mixed martial arts ring after this event, raising doubts about his future in the UFC. However, this fight represents a new step in his career as he looks to leverage his global fame to achieve more success both inside and outside the ring.
The question remains: will this clash be just a show or a sporting fight that will go down in the history of boxing? Sports fans around the world are eagerly awaiting the answer.
