Back in 2009, Carrie Underwood hosted her Carrie Underwood: All Star Holiday Special, and invited Dolly Parton to come sing one of her signature songs with her, one you’ve probably heard a time or two, “I Will Always Love You.”
Dolly released it as a stand alone single in 1974, when it peaked at #1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs chart later that year, and then rereleased it October 1982, with a re-recording for The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas soundtrack.
And of course, Whitney Houston eventually covered the track for the iconic 1992 film The Bodyguard, and it spent spent 14 weeks at #1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart, setting a new record at the time, when it became one of the best-selling singles of all time and the best-selling single by a woman.
It’s a classic in every sense of the word, and of course, Carrie was ecstatic to take the stage with one of her idols to duet what is probably one of the most widely-known songs of all time, saying in part:
