Feel the “Raw Emotion” From Chris Stapleton and Dwight Yoakam
Name a more iconic duo than Willie Nelson and Ray Charles. The pair of legends partnered up in 1984 for “Seven Spanish Angels,” the story of a Mexican outlaw and his wife trying to outrun a posse that wants to take them back to Texas. Soul and country mingle perfectly side by side in the track. And it hadn’t lost its magic 42 years later, when Chris Stapleton joined Dwight Yoakam onstage at the 2016 CMA Awards for a cover.
Standing by her husband’s side, Morgane Stapleton provided flawless backing vocals (all while sporting some pretty fabulous gold pants.)
“Chris, Morgane, AND Dwight Yoakam?!” commented one delighted YouTube user. “YESSSS”
Another awestruck fan added, “Dwight is one of the most amazing story-tellers in modern music, a genius who takes away my breath. And Chris Stapleton brings country music to its KNEES, makes it RAW EMOTION. He must pair with every musician alive, he makes every melody beautiful.”
See Sierra Ferrell Take On “Seven Spanish Angels”
Chris Stapleton is far from the only artist to turn “Seven Spanish Angels” into their own slice of heaven. Alt-country darling Sierra Ferrell delivered a positively enchanting rendition during Willie’s annual Luck Reunion festival in March 2023.
“Brave to take on such a well known song but as usual, Sierra owns it,” added another. “Wonderful.I will replay this again and again.”
