Kelly Clarkson fans couldn’t hide their excitement for the collaboration, saying the ‘American Idol’ alum ‘can sing anything with anyone.’
Kelly Clarkson is no slouch when it comes to singing other artists’ songs—the American Idol alum is famously so good at doing covers that even a hint of an upcoming “Kellyoke” performance drives fans into a frenzy.
On Oct. 15, Clarkson teased a slight variation of the musical segment on her eponymous talk show and fans said they’re “crying already” at the announcement.
In an Instagram video titled solely “FRIDAY 😍,” The Kelly Clarkson Show revealed that Coldplay frontman Chris Martin would be stopping by the program to delight fans with his new single “All My Love.”
Clarkson explained that “he was kind enough to let me sing with him,” sharing that she was “very excited to sing harmony with him.” She continued, noting that as a long-time fan, she’s actually “been singing harmony with him for a while.”
In a behind-the-scenes clip of the two doing soundcheck before their performance in front of the show’s audience, Martin quipped that Clarkson is “very good,” which prompted her to double down on what she shared earlier in the video and reveal “I’ve been singing harmony with you since I was in junior high, you just didn’t know it.”
“I didn’t know it, but I felt it,” he said with a smile in return.
Clarkson, who is known for her big vocals, also explained that while she almost always sings lead, she enjoys singing the harmonies in songs as well. “The harmony parts are just more fun!” she said. “It was just a different Kellyoke for me,’” she mused. “It’s nice when it gets changed up. Well, it’s also nice when it’s Chris frickin’ Martin.”
The comments section of the video lit up, with fans writing messages like “Stop!!! So excited,” with one fan sharing that they’re “Crying already🥹❤️,” and another concurring that “yup, i will be crying 🥹😅.”
Others chimed in on the music itself, sharing “I love that song ever since he sang it on SNL – & she can sing anything with anyone 👏🏼” and agreeing with Clarkson that “The harmony parts are indeed more fun! 😍❤️👏🔥.”
