Ryan Garcia has faced Gervonta Davis and Devin Haney and is targeting rematches with both men for different reasons.
Back in 2023, Garcia and ‘Tank’ Davis co-starred in one of the most successful cards in recent memory, both in terms of live gate and pay-per-view sales. After a quick start, Garcia was dropped in the seconds and seventh round, failing to get up from the final body shot to lose by knockout.
He moved up in weight for his next bout, blaming the ‘Tank’ loss for being drained by a rehydration clause, and beat Oscar Duarte to secure a shot against WBC Super-Lightweight World Champion Haney.
‘King Ryan’ ended up ineligible for the belt due to missing the weight but struck a deal for the fight to go ahead and knocked Haney down three times before winning on points. The result was later overturned to a no contest when it was found he had failed two doping tests for a banned substance.
Garcia says he wants to fight Davis at a fairer weight and wants to rematch Haney to prove he wasn’t benefitting from the use of performance-enhancing drugs. As for which return bout he would find harder, he recently revealed the answer is Haney.
“Haney caught me, Gervonta I didn’t really [feel anything]. It wasn’t a hard fight I was just weak.
“It’s not a hard fight for me. You guys can pull up the picture of me how I looked for Tank and how I looked for Haney. I would beat Gervonta Davis worse than I beat Devin Haney.
“Haney is a harder fight than Gervonta. Gervonta would never fight me at 145 so it doesn’t really matter.”
Haney and Garcia fight on the same card on May 3. Should the former beat Jose Ramirez and the latter Rolly Romero, the rematch will take place later this year.
As for ‘Tank’, he has his hands full with a rematch of his own against Lamont Roach Jr.
