Diana Taurasi Took A Big Swipe At LSU Star Angel Reese
Diana Taurasi tried to make a joke at LSU superstar Angel Reese’s expense and it earned no small amount of backlash on social media.
During the latest episode of The Bird & Taurasi Show, Taurasi and fellow WNBA icon Sue Bird reviewed a video of Angel Reese waving goodbye to an opponent during the NCAA Tournament. Taurasi didn’t seem to take kindly to Reese taunting an opponent and said she should wave goodbye to her career instead.
“Wave bye-bye to your own career,” Taurasi said.
Taurasi seemed to be under the impression that Reese would not be going pro. So Bird corrected Taurasi, pointing out that Reese has already declared for the 2024 WNBA Draft.
“Oh, right,” Taurasi said after the correction. “My bad.”
But that brief apology wasn’t enough to assuage the anger of a ton of Angel Reese fans, or of fans who are excited for the new generation of WNBA players.
Many took to social media and complained that Taurasi and people who espouse her views are doing a disservice to the entire sport.
“There’s a moment where women choose to uplift or hate on the younger girls that follow behind them. DONT BE LIKE diana taurasi,” one user wrote.
“This + the Breanna Stewart comment proves one thing: The older generation of stars are JEALOUS of the young superstars,” another wrote.
“your hating ass is just pressed knowing Angel gonna sell more jerseys on draft night then you’ve sold in your entire career @DianaTaurasi,” wrote a third.
Do you think Taurasi and others are jealous of Reese and the others?
