NFL Insider confirms suspicions about Chiefs TE Travis Kelce’s future ahead of Super Bowl LIX

Feb 6, 2025; New Orleans, LA, USA; Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce (87) during a press conference in advance of Super Bowl LIX at New Orleans Marriott.

All throughout the week leading up to Super Bowl LIX, Travis Kelce has been asked over and over again what his plans are for the future.

And at every turn, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end has talked about his love for the game, saying, “I feel like I still got a lot of good football left in me.”

But, according to one NFL Insider, Kelce could still decide to call it quits depending on the result of Sunday’s game.

Kelce is reportedly “expected to take time after the Super Bowl, consider his future and make a decision before free agency, which officially begins March 12,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports.

That’s the last thing that Chiefs Kingdom wants to hear ahead of this big game.

Kelce has experimented with the acting world this past year, so he will have a career outside of football if he decides to move on. However, earlier this week, he showed everyone that his heart is still with Kansas City.

“For the most part, I’m planning on being a Kansas City Chief and playing football,” he said.

Hopefully this will keep in Kansas City for a bit longer.

And it’s no secret that the team will certainly welcome him back with open arms.

“Hopefully he does play another 3 years because that’s good for me,” Mahomes admitted.

Kelce is a true leader, proving day in and day out that he is a vital piece of the franchise. And that has never been more clear than this year.

Despite a slow statistical start to the season that resulted in a lot of criticism from the media and fans, Kelce’s teammates and coaches praised him for still approaching every day the same. And there was a lot he was doing that didn’t show up on the stats sheet.

One thing is for sure: when Kelce retires, the Chiefs will never be the same.
