Top 3 wins for Dalton Smith

Ahead of Saturday’s clash with Walid Ouizza, the Sheffield star is now 16-0 with 12 KOs but which of his victories stand out among the others? We take a look at his best three wins to date.

SAM O’MAISON, 6.8.22, Sheffield Arena – W TKO 6

This was a big night for Smith, who was 11-0 at the time, as he was given top billing for the first time. In fact, this was his first professional outing in Sheffield and he made the perfect start with this stoppage of the 17-3-1 Sam O’Maison.

The vacant British title was on the line that night and Smith secured the strap after dropping O’Maison once in the third and twice in the sixth with referee Marcus McDonnell waving it off with five seconds left of that round.

SAM MAXWELL, 1.7.23, Sheffield Arena – W TKO 7

After Successful defences of the British title against Kaisee Benjamin and Billy Allington, Smith was given the chance to win the Lord Lonsdale belt outright in this clash with 17-1 Sam Maxwell.

There was some pressure on Smith to perform after he failed to stop Benjamin or Allington and some were pumping the breaks on suggestions that he was a world champion in waiting.

But he provided an explosive reminder of his class against Maxwell, who was knocked out cold by a picturebook right hand midway through the seventh.

JOSE ZEPEDA, 23.3.24, Sheffield Arena – W KO 5

After cleaning up domestically, this was the step up to world level that would tell us much about Smith’s chances of winning one of the four major belts. And, on this showing, the 27-year-old is destined for a world title as he put the experienced American Jose Zepeda away inside five rounds.

Smith had boxed well against the wily southpaw through the first four rounds before the finish came after 1:25 of the fifth. Again, it was the right hand that did the business, only this time it sunk into his opponent’s midriff leaving Zepeda totally unable to climb to his feet.
