An Elvis Presley immersive experience that will see the King of Rock and Roll as a hologram has been slammed by fans.

A new immersive experience called Elvis Evolution will allow fans to watch him perform on stage in the UK.

Layered Reality, the digital technology company behind the project, has gained access to never seen footage of the star and all his greatest hits from Authentic Brands Group, owners of the Elvis Presley estate.

Despite having never toured outside of North America during his career, Elvis’s opening AI show will touch down in central London this November, with tickets costing £60. A venue is yet to be announced.

But the show has not gone down well with fans who think it’s a bad idea to have a hologram of the singer, who died in 1977 at the age of 42.

Taking to X/Twitter, users wrote: ‘No one asked for this’… ‘Well that’s disturbing’… ‘I know people aren’t ready to ay 100s to see an AI Elvis perform. Might as well go and see an impersonator’.

Others added: ‘Won’t be attending’… ‘Hoiw is this very impressive yet also terrifying?

The show will late travel to Las Vegas, Tokyo and Berlin.

Fans will have to wear headsets for some of the experience as well as make their way around different areas within the venue.

It follows the success of Abba Voyage, in which life-size avatars of the Swedish pop sensations perform as their human counterparts appeared in 1979, in a purpose-built arena in east London. The show made a £322.6 million turnover last year.

Initially planned to last two or three years, Abba Voyage is expected to soon have a London residency – which could inject £1 billion into the capital’s economy in the next six years. In November it announced ticket sales had passed 1.9million since it premiered in May 2022.

No stranger to holograms, Elvis appeared alongside Celine Dion in American Pop Idol in 2007 and alongside Ryan Gosling in Blade Runner 2049.

And in his largest tribute yet a video collage that rendered him hundreds of times was projected during U2’s performance on the opening night of the Sphere in Las Vegas.

Meanwhile the 2022 Elvis biopic received seven nominations at the Critics’ Choice Awards, earned three nominations at the Golden Globe Awards and made a box office revenue of £288 million.

Andrew McGuinness, founder and chief executive of Layered Reality, said: ‘Elvis Evolution is a next-generation tribute to the musical legend that is Elvis Presley.

‘Elvis maintains superstar status globally and people around the world no longer want to sit there and passively receive entertainment – they want to be a part of it.’
