Bruce Springsteen and Patti Scialfa rocked the house for horse feed.
Springsteen and Scialfa performed Friday night at the United States Equestrian Team Foundation’s “Victory in Versailles” benefit in Wellington, Florida, in support the team going to the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris.
Springsteen and wife, Scialfa, played “Glory Days,” “Tougher Than the Rest,” and “Money (That’s What I Want)” with a band at the event, which took place at Five Rings Farm in Wellington. Springsteen and Scialfa, and others, were the hosts.
Jessica Springsteen, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer’s daughter, won silver in Team Jumping at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. It was held in 2021 due to the pandemic.
The Legends of the Voice, a band of singers’ from TV’s “The Voice,” also performed at the benefit, according to the USET Foundation.
“Our athletes’ many years of hard work will culminate in representing our country on the most impressive stage of all — the Olympic and Paralympic Games,” said Bonnie Jenkins, executive director of the USET Foundation in a statement prior to the event. “We’re incredibly grateful to our dedicated friends and donors that help these Olympic and Paralympic dreams become reality.”
“Patti and I have been involved with the horse world for 20 plus years since Jess started riding when she was 5 years old,” said Springsteen that night. “Needless to say, retirement is nowhere in sight for me. I literally play for horse feed night after night.”
The 2024 Olympic equestrian events will take place in July and August at the Gardens of the Palace of Versailles in Paris.
The “Victory in Versailles” event took place as the Light of Day Winterfest in Asbury Park and Red Bank was underway. The Light of Day raises funds in the fight against Parkinson’s and related disease. Springsteen is often an announced performer at the Light of Day.
Max Weinberg’s Jukebox headlines the Light of Day’s main event Saturday, Jan. 20 at the Count Basie Center for the Arts in Red Bank. Weinberg plays drums in Springsteen’s E Street Band.
