It’s not a Nashville Predators playoff game without Carrie Underwood. What a voice! Carrie Underwood once again proved she’s more than just a music superstar — she’s a Nashville treasure and an ultimate sports supporter. During a highly anticipated Stanley Cup Playoff game for the Nashville Predators, Underwood stunned the crowd with a powerful surprise performance of the national anthem, creating a magical moment in sports history that had fans talking long after the final buzzer.

When your hockey team is in the thick of a playoff race, the last thing you need is a distraction. For Nashville Predators captain Mike Fisher, he and his teammates got a surprise Monday night as they prepared to face the Chicago Blackhawks at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena from none other than Fisher’s own wife, Carrie Underwood, who did an unannounced performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

Underwood’s appearance proved anything but a distraction. In fact, the seven-time Grammy winner – decked out in one of her husband’s jerseys and matching blue and gold fingernail polish – only helped to whip the home team fans into a frenzy. A tasteful and mostly restrained rendition, Underwood laid into the last verse, making a ventriloquist-like octave jump like it was old hat.

Afterward, Underwood and Nashville mayor Megan Barry stood on the ice whipping yellow Predator towels in the air. Nashville went on to win a thrilling game in overtime and open a 3-0 lead in the series over Chicago.

Underwood, who was nominated for a Grammy award this year her song “Church Bells,” recently joined Keith Urban onstage at the ACM Awards to perform their duet “The Fighter.”
