First capturing the spotlight on season one of American Idol, Kelly Clarkson appeared to never slow down after her first performance. Although remembered as the original American Idol, the singer went on to produce a stunning career in the music industry. While releasing her tenth studio album back in 2023 with Chemistry, she also appeared in animated films like Trolls World Tour and Ugly Dolls. Continuing to expand her career, Clarkson also found success when helming her own show The Kelly Clarkson Show. And while fans love watching her rub shoulders with celebrities and fellow singers, nothing compares to her Kellyoke segment.
Becoming a hot moment on her show, fans and even singers praised her for covering songs from genres like rock, country, and pop. Recently, Clarkson took the stage during her Kellyoke segment to cover Sabrina Carpenter’s hit song “Please Please Please.” But instead of singing it just like Carpenter, Clarkson decided to add a little country.
Kelly Clarkson Thanks Sabrina Carpenter For ‘Please Please Please”
While changing the style and feel of a song can be a bold move, fans couldn’t get enough. “Omg. Her low tone and her raspiness fits so well and the fact she made it country. O my freaking God that’s so good.” One fan added, “This song has always made me feel like Olivia Newton John could have sang it back when she was doing country. It’s a terrific song, and Kelly’s cover proves I was right that it was a stealth 70’s era country song!”
After finishing the last verse, Clarkson discussed her decision to change the style of the song, telling the crowd, “Ever since I heard this song, for some reason, I hear like Dolly Parton singing it as well. For some reason, it lends itself to country for me, so I asked my band if we could make more of a country version of it because we have the amazing pop version already.”
Continuing to praise the song, Clarkson took a moment to thank Carpenter for the hit that seemed to fit any genre. “I love that song, and I love when a song is so good that you can kind of go into different genres with it. But thank you, Sabrina, for that song. Thank you for letting me sing it.”
